There are many ways to gain core for expanding T-doll [Tactical-Dolls] links by doing daily quests, weekly quests, dismantling T-dolls with 3 or higher stars, or through achievements. The other way to get these cores are through clearing missions in the area with S-Rank and getting a gold medal.
When you clear a normal mission in the area you are given 1 core, while emergency missions gives you 2 per mission. You only get these cores once on your first S-Rank clear, these cores adds up to quite a bit [Full clear of each area will give you 14 cores excluding achievement bonuses].
I strongly recommend you have well leveled/linked and equipped squad/echelon(s) for gold medal runs because if there is a loss of links or dolls needs to be repaired mid-mission, you lose ability to earn S-Rank. With proper doll links and levels and doing it only once, there will be minimal loss of resources when it is especially tight early game.
It is important to know that enemy units taken out by Friend's or Griffon's Squad does not count in the kill count needed for S-Rank. This guide mainly uses 2 squads for killing enemy + a dummy squad and or friend's squad depending on situation.
Turn 4~5: This is where you have some free movements to take out units to meet the kill requirement and control enemy HQ. **Reminder: surrounding HQ doesn't work in this case so make sure to step ON the enemy HQ tile to occupy.**

It is important to be flexible in mission due to Girls Frontline does not have fixed enemy movements. So adopt accordingly.
